One of the many reasons why I’m voting for President Obama because he’s done more for gay rights in the past 3 years than all presidents combined. And he doesn’t want to enshrine discrimination in the Constitution with the Federal Marriage Amendment.

I’ve been forced to explain homosexuality to my kids (aged 3 and 4) because their uncle is gay. This incredibly difficult and traumatic experience went as follows:
Child: Why does Uncle Bob go everywhere with Pete?
Me: Because they’re in love, just like Mummy and Daddy are.
Child: Oh. Can I have a biscuit?
We’re all scarred for life. Scarred, I tell you.
So very true.KateP, Internet commenter (via cocklordsimone)

This year’s Best Picture Oscar Nominees as a bitchy Facebook thread. It’s amazing. (From Jeff Katz’s blog). (H/T to Krystyn).

I’ve now seen all the Best Picture Nominees, and here they are, ranked, in my opinion, offered without commentary, and please tell me why I’m wrong:
1. Hugo
2. Tree of Life
3. War Horse
4. The Descendants
5. Midnight in Paris
6. The Artist
7. Moneyball
8. The Help
…
Lemme weigh in on this. Here are my rankings of the 9 Best Picture nominees:
1. The Artist
2. The Descendants
3. War Horse
4. Midnight In Paris
5. The Help
6. Moneyball
7. Hugo
8. The Tree of Life
9. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
My #1 is a pretty simple choice (since neither Beginners nor Pariah was on this list). #2-5 are rather interchangeable. The gap between #5 & #6 is rather significant, but nowhere near the gap between #7 and #8-9. While I was no fan of Hugo, I’d watch that 5 times over than either Tree of Life or Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close.

No, Maggie. I can’t speak for the Ninth Circuit Court, but I tend to believe that people are essentially good. Even when they disagree with me about fundamental issues, I choose to believe that most people are doing the best they can with the information they’ve been given. And in the run-up to Proposition 8, California was flooded with inaccurate information: that marriage equality would curtail religious freedom, that children would be “taught gay marriage,” that heterosexual families were somehow in danger. The tide is turning, and marriage equality is within our reach, because the reality does not match up to your bad information.
And that bad information came from you, Maggie Gallagher. And you continue to spread it.
Because you are an irrational bigot.
What he said.

I’m starting to think alignment charts are an invaluable tool for creating an ensemble comedy. (Can’t find one out there for Cheers, though.)
This is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Love it.
